Very is the fifth studio album by the Pet Shop Boys . It was published by Parlophone on September 27, 1993 . It reached number 1 in the charts in Germany and Great Britain . In 2005 it was included in the list of the reference work 1001 Album You Must Hear Before You Die .

Origin and reception

All tracks were written by Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe , only the single hit " Go West " is based on the Village People song of the same name . The album was recorded in London (only the choir on Go West in New York), mixed by Stephen Hague and Mike Drake, mastered by Bob Ludwig in Portland, produced by the Pet Shop Boys and Stephen Hague. The orange-colored jewel case with knobbed relief was designed by the London design studio Pentagram.

In 1994 a limited edition bonus CD was released under the title Very Relentless . The bonus CD contains six more songs that were recorded at the same time as Very . The remastered version, released in 2001, contains the bonus CD Further Listening 1992-1994 with remixes and unreleased songs.

Neil Tennant described Very as "very Pet Shop Boys". Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic awarded 4.5 out of 5 stars and stated: "Alternately happy and melancholy, Very is the Pet Shop Boys at their finest."
