Very Superior is the only album by the German music project Vinylshakerz . It was released on May 12, 2006.

backgrounds

Very Superior was produced by the two members of Vinylshakerz, music producers Thomas Detert and Rico Bernasconi , and contains the singles One Night in Bangkok , Club Tropicana and Daddy Cool . All three decouplings were able to prove themselves in the German charts and sometimes also outside the German-speaking area , for example in the Netherlands , Belgium and Finland , in the hit parades. The songs were part of a wave of dance - remixes that DJ your customized already popular songs and in particular the mid- 2000s, years of great popularity and good sales figures enjoyed. Other representatives include The Sound of San Francisco and What a Feeling (Flashdance) from the Global Deejays , Falling Stars from the Sunset Strippers , In the Year 2525 from Venice Beat feat. Tess Timony , Out of Touch from Uniting Nations and Call on Me and Proper Education from Eric Prydz .

music

Very Superior contains songs in the styles Techno , House , Eurodance , Dance , Pop and Reggae House , which are carried by pounding bass drums and simple, distinctive synthesizer melodies. In several of the songs, the singing comes exclusively from samples of mostly already known titles by other artists, whereby individual word and sentence fragments are partially cut together to form a new melody using the chopping technique. Studio singers or entirely computer-generated vocals also appear; A recurring motif is also an artificially lower pitched voice, which - especially at the beginning of the songs - speaks individual passages and, among other things, announces the band or repeats the name or text of the respective song. In a large number of the songs, the instrumental is more in the foreground than the vocals.

Cover design

The cover artwork for Very Superior shows in black and white two women in bikinis who are up to their hips in water , but their upper bodies and hair are also wet. The background is completely white . Over the entire motif, stars of different sizes in different shades of blue can be seen, which cluster in the upper left corner. Above this point is the name of the music project in light blue and the album title below in white.

criticism

Very Superior received mixed to negative reviews. The similarities to the style of the musician Benny Benassi and other artists who imitate his music were noticed and the re-use of the formula also used by the Global Deejays of "dismembered" samples of well-known songs on tracks such as One Night in Bangkok was criticized . These are an epitome of the "terrible dance taste these days". However, the more house music genre, such as Got No Reason or @ The Weekend were positively highlighted and the work was seen as one of the better albums by artists who want to benefit from past hits by sampling.

success

Despite commercially successful singles, Very Superior failed to position itself in the charts worldwide.
