Vicente Alberto Pernía (born April 25, 1949 in Tandil ) is a former Argentine football player. With the Boca Juniors he won the Copa Libertadores twice and the World Cup once .
Career
Vicente Pernía, born on April 25, 1949 in Tandil in the province of Buenos Aires , began his football career in the youth of Estudiantes de La Plata . At the age of 20 he was accepted into the first team of Estudiantes de La Plata under coach Osvaldo Zubeldía in 1969, which was one of the most successful teams in South American football at the time. Between 1968 and 1970, the team around players like Juan Ramón Verón , Carlos Bilardo and Néstor Togneri won the Copa Libertadores , the most important competition for club teams in South America, three times in a row . In 1971 they failed only in the final at Nacional Montevideo . Vicente Pernía only had a small share in these successes. He was not part of the regular Estudiantes team and was not used in any of the three finals.
In the winter of 1972/73 Vicente Pernía left Estudiantes de La Plata and moved to Buenos Aires to the Boca Juniors . With the team from the slum La Boca , he experienced his most successful phase as a football player. From 1973 to 1981 Pernía was used in a total of 238 league games with ten goals for his new employer. The right-back won his first title with the Boca Juniors in the Torneo Metropolitano of the Primera División in 1976 . They finished first in the final round with three points ahead of CA Huracán . In the same year, coach Juan Carlos Lorenzo's team was able to add a second championship title by winning the Torneo Nacional. Here they defeated city rivals CA River Plate 1-0 in the final . Due to these successes, the Boca Juniors were eligible to start the Copa Libertadores 1976 . After surviving the group stage as group winners, they also left Deportivo Cali from Colombia and Club Libertad from Paraguay behind them in the second round and qualified for the final of the Copa Libertadores, where they met the Brazilian team of defending champion Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte . After both teams had won their home game 1-0, a play-off had to determine the winner. This then went into overtime, after which the Boca Juniors in Montevideo were able to prevail with 5: 4. Vicente Pernía was in the starting line-up in all three finals and scored 4: 3 on penalties. A little later, the Boca Juniors won the World Cup against the German representative Borussia Mönchengladbach 5-2 on a return leg . In the Copa Libertadores 1978 Boca was able to move into the final as defending champion after leaving River Plate and Atlético Mineiro behind in the second group stage . In the final, the Boca Juniors faced the Colombian team from Deportivo Cali, which reached a goalless draw in the first leg at the Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero . The second leg in Buenos Aires, however, the Boca Juniors clearly won 4-0 and defended the Copa Libertadores title. The club experienced a very successful time in the shadow of the military dictatorship, which was actually trying to support local rivals River Plate. In 1981 a championship title could still be won in the Torneo Metropolitano.
In 1981, however, Vicente Pernía was no longer a regular at the Boca Juniors. He moved to CA Vélez Sársfield for the 1982 season , where he was under contract for a year before ending his career at the age of 33. In this career there were ten international matches for the Argentine national football team , in which he did not score. The then national coach César Luis Menotti gave Jorge Olguín priority in the Pernías position in the long term.
