Victor Warot

Victor Alexandre Joseph Warot (born September 18, 1834 in Verviers , Liège province ; † April 1906 in Bois-Colombes , Hauts-de-Seine department ) was a Belgian singing teacher and opera singer (tenor), who was primarily a Wagner - and Meyerbeer - Interpreter became known.

Life

Warot received his first artistic lessons from his father. With his support, Warot later came to Paris , where he became a student of Jules Alary (1814-1891). Warot made his successful debut as a lyric tenor in 1858 when he was able to take part in Armand Limnander's opera “The Montenegrins” at the Opéra-Comique (Paris) .

On May 7, 1860, he sang the part of Beppe in the world premiere of the Donizetti opera Rita ou Le Mari battu, which he had left behind. From 1861 to 1868 he was part of the ensemble of the Opéra National de Paris , where he sang Vasco da Gama in Giacomo Meyerbeer's opera Die Afrikanerin .

1868–69 and 1870–74 he was engaged at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels , where he also turned to dramatic roles. After 1888 he worked as a singing teacher at the Conservatoire National in Paris. He was the author of the textbook Bréviaire du chanteur .
