Viktor Karl Konrad William of choice ( Russian Валь, Виктор Вильгельмович Viktor Vladimirovich of choice ; born July 17 . Jul / 29. July  1840 greg. In Ropkoy ; † February 7 jul. / 20th February  1915 greg. In St. Petersburg ) was a Russian cavalry general .

Life

Viktor was a member of the Baltic noble family of choice . His parents were the landowner and parish judge Wilhelm von Wahl (1812–1890) and Anna, née von Brasch (1816–1890). In 1878 he married Elisabeth Sinclair, divorced Melgunowa (1853–1941). The marriage resulted in a son, Wasja von Wahl (1880-1944), Colonel of the Guard , Chief of Staff of the Northwest Army and interpreter for the Wehrmacht .

Career

Wahl attended the engineering school in St. Petersburg. Since 1858 he was in the service of the Imperial Russian Army . He was promoted to colonel in 1873 and became a wing adjutant in 1874 . In the following years he found various uses as governor, for example in 1876 by Yaroslavl , 1878 by Grodno , 1879 by Kharkov , 1880 by Vitebsk , 1884 by Podolia , 1885 by Volhynia , 1889 by Kursk , and finally from 1901 to 1902 by Vilna . As early as 1879, he was assigned to the Imperial Suite in his capacity as a grand adjudicator. His promotion to major general took place in 1883. From 1892 to 1895 he was city governor or city commander of St. Petersburg. He rose to lieutenant general in 1893 . In 1895 he became honorary guardian of the Board of Trustees for Empress Maria . From 1902 to 1903 he worked at the Ministry of the Interior and was commander of the gendarme corps. Wahl became a member of the Reichsrat in 1903 and became General of the Cavalry in 1904.
