Villa Rosario is a village in the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Villa Rosario is the central place of the canton Villa Rosario in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Sabaya in the province Sabaya . The village is located on the Bolivian Altiplano at an altitude of 3800  m directly west of Cerro Pariani , which reaches an altitude of more than 5000 m. To the east of the village is the valley of the Río Sabaya , whose water, which flows only occasionally during the year, flows ten kilometers further south into the salt lake Salar de Coipasa .

The vegetation in the region corresponds to the semi-arid puna . It is treeless and mainly consists of thorn bushes , grasses , succulents and cushion plants . It is used economically as a llama , alpaca and sheep pasture .

Transport network

Villa Rosario is located 200 kilometers by road from Oruro , the capital of the department of the same name.

From Oruro, the largely unpaved road Ruta 12 leads 189 kilometers in a south-westerly direction via Ancaravi and Huachacalla to Sabaya and on to Pisiga on the Chilean border. An unpaved road leads south from Sabaya, reaches Rosario after eleven kilometers and then continues to the village of Villa Vitalina on the Salar .
