Villetta (Villetta della Garfagnana) is a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) of San Romano in Garfagnana in the province of Lucca , Tuscany region in Italy .

geography

The place is about 3 km southeast of the capital San Romano in Garfagnana, about 38 km north of the provincial capital Lucca and about 85 km northwest of the regional capital Florence in the upper valley of the Serchio in the Garfagnana landscape . The place is 448 m and had about 320 inhabitants in 2001. The closest places are Sillicagnana (also district of San Romano in Garfagnana) and Pontecosi (district of Pieve Fosciana ). West of the Serchio is the place Poggio (district of Camporgiano ).

history

The place existed in the 10th century under the name Villa di Bacciano and was part of the Terra di Bacciano , an area that was under the Counts of Bacciano (Conti di Bacciano). After the Bacciano fell from power, the area fell to Lucca , who assigned it to the Vicaria di Perpore Supra and then the Vicaria di Camporgiano . In the conflict between Florence and Lucca, the place turned to Ferrara and Leonello d'Este (1407–1450) and remained under the rule of the Este family until the unification of Italy.

  • San Giuseppe (San Giuseppe e Pantaleone), church in the town center, which bears the title of the no longer active church of Sambuca. Was elevated to parish church in 1902 .
  • Chiesa di San Pantaleone , church in the Località Sambuca. In 1348 it was merged with the church of San Lorenzo a Bacciano , which no longer exists , was badly damaged during acts of war in the 15th century and rebuilt in 1444. Was baptized in 1612 by the Pieve in Pieve Fosciana , to which it belonged until then.
  • Ponte di Villetta , railway bridge on the Aulla – Lucca line from the 1930s with a length of 408 m. The central arch is 54 m high. Was destroyed in World War II and rebuilt in the 1950s.
  • Ponte di Bacciano , ruined bridge on the Serchio near the Località Bacciano near Villetta. First documented in 1345.
  • Castellaccio di Bacciano , castle ruins near the Località Bacciano near Villetta. The castle was built around the 11th / 12th. Century.
