Villiers is a city in the South African province of Free State . It is located in the municipality of Mafube in the district of Fezile Dabi .

Villiers has 1287 inhabitants (2011 census), 16,028 people live in the eastern township of Qalabotjha. While 71% of the residents in Villiers state 71% Afrikaans as their mother tongue, in Qalabotjha 71% speak Sesotho and 21% isiZulu . The city lies on the Vaal , which is spanned by three bridges, one of which is for rail traffic.

The place was built on the area of ​​the Pearson Valley and Grootvlei farms that had previously belonged to Lourens de Villiers. It was on the route from Johannesburg and Durban and on the border between the Orange Free State and the Transvaal . Until the founding of the South African Union in 1910, it was the seat of a customs post.

Villiers is on the National Route 3 (N3), which connects the province of Gauteng with the metropolitan municipality of eThekwini , as well as on the trunk roads R26, which leads south to Frankfort , the R54, which leads to Vereeniging , and the R103, which leads to Harrismith in the south leads. Coming from Balfour , the R51 joins the N3 and R54 a little north of Villiers.
