Viluyo is a town in the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Viluyo is the second largest town in the canton of Huanuni in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Huanuni in the province of Pantaleón Dalence . The village is located at an altitude of 3875  m on the right, northern bank of the Río Huanuni , which flows from the village of Huanuni to the northwest into the Uru-Uru Lake .

Viluyo lies on the eastern edge of the Bolivian Altiplano and is bordered to the east by the high mountain ranges of the Cordillera Central . Viluyo is 42 kilometers by road south of Oruro , the capital of the department of the same name.

The 976 kilometer long highway Ruta 6 runs through Viluyo, which begins a few kilometers northwest near Sora Sora and leads east via Sucre to the Brazilian border.

At Sora Sora, route 6 branches off from 1,215 kilometers of paved route 1 , which crosses the Altiplano from north to south and continues from Desaguadero (Bolivia) on the Peruvian border via El Alto and Oruro in the north to Potosí and Tarija in the south and ends at Bermejo on the border with Paraguay .
