politics

As in most rural areas of Finland, the Center Party is the strongest political force in Vimpeli . In the 2008 local elections she received 46.9 percent, in the 2007 parliamentary election over half of the votes. In the local council, the highest decision-making body in local affairs, it has 11 out of 21 members and thus has a narrow absolute majority. The second strongest party are the right-wing populist True Finns , which with 24.3 percent in Vimpeli achieved one of their highest election results in the country and now has 5 MPs. The left-wing alliance is still represented in the municipal council with four seats. The two other Finnish people's parties besides the Center Party, on the other hand, hardly play a role in Vimpeli: the conservative National Assembly Party has only one MP, while the Social Democrats failed to make it into the local council with a share of only 3.4 percent.
