location

history
A sedentary settlement in Teuva did not develop until 1560. From 1694 the place was a chapel community of the parish of Närpes , before Teuva in 1795 received an independent parish . The political municipality of Teuva was created by the municipal reform of 1868. The municipality is traditionally characterized by agriculture. Greenhouse cultivation in particular plays a major role: a quarter of Finland's lettuce production grows in the greenhouses of the Teuva-based company Tamsin kasvihuoneet . Teuva is also a center for furniture production. The municipal training center TEAK in Teuva is the largest training center in the furniture industry in the Nordic countries .

The traditional sports club Teuvan Rivakka is located in the municipality . He included the javelin thrower Pauli Nevala and the wrestling brothers Kalervo and Jukka Rauhala . Nevala's Olympic victory in 1964 is commemorated by a memorial in the form of a 26-meter-long spear, supposedly the "largest spear in the world".
Attractions
The modern church of Teuva was built in 1953. Its predecessor from 1863 had been destroyed by fire three years earlier. Only the choir and sacristy of the old church remained and were later repaired. Today the church ruins are occasionally used for evening services and concerts. The altarpiece of the new church was created by Tove Jansson and depicts the parable of the wise and foolish virgins .
