Isobutyl vinyl ether is an organic chemical compound belonging to the group of enol ethers . It is in the form of a colorless liquid.
history
During World War II, isobutyl vinyl ether was used as a fuel in the German waterfall rocket .
Extraction and presentation
Isobutyl vinyl ether can be obtained from isobutanol and ethyne by Reppe synthesis .
properties
Isobutyl vinyl ether has a viscosity of 0.48 mPa ・ s at 5 ° C.
use
Isobutyl vinyl ether is used as a reactive diluent in hybrid radiation curing and as an intermediate product in the manufacture of polymers (e.g. polyisobutyl vinyl ether ) and other chemical compounds.
safety instructions
Isobutyl vinyl ether is chemically unstable at elevated temperatures and tends to polymerize spontaneously. Therefore, 0.1% potassium hydroxide or DEA is often added for stabilization . It forms explosive peroxide in air (flash point: −9 ° C, ignition temperature: 205 ° C).
