Vivian Chukwuemeka (also Vivian Peters ; born May 4, 1975 in Kwale ) is a former Nigerian athlete . She won medals in the shot put , discus and hammer throw .

Life

Chukwuemeka won her first international title in the shot put at the 1999 African Games in Johannesburg. In 2002 she won both the Commonwealth Games in Manchester and the African Athletics Championships in Radès. In addition, she was second in the discus throw at the African Championships. The following year she won three more medals at the African Games in Abuja: gold in the shot put, silver in the discus throw and bronze in the hammer throw.

At the 2006 African Championships in Bambous, Chukwuemeka finished in the same positions as four years earlier in Radés. She won again with the ball and came second with the discus. In the same year she won the bronze medal in the shot put at the Commonwealth Games. In 2007 she successfully defended her title in the shot put at the Africa Games in Algiers. She came third in the discus throw and fourth in the hammer throw. In 2008 she was the third African champion in the shot put in Addis Ababa.

In addition, Chukwuemeka took part in the Olympic Games in 2000 and 2008 and the World Championships in 2003 and 2005 , where she missed the final in the shot put, however.

In 2009, Chukwuemeka tested positive for the steroid methenolone during a doping control . She denied knowingly ingesting prohibited substances. The IAAF , the World Athletics Association , banned them for two years retrospectively from July 24, 2009. In June 2012 she was diagnosed with stanozolol and was banned for life. Her victory at the 2012 African Athletics Championships and her African record of 18.86 m that was set there were also canceled.

Vivian Chukwuemeka is 1.78 m tall and weighed 102 kg at competition times. She attended Azusa Pacific University and graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Social Work .
