Vliet (body of water)
Vliet is an Old Dutch term for a watercourse . This can be a stream, river, canal or drainage ditch.
A number of Dutch waters are named accordingly.
- Vliet, a former river in the city of Leeuwarden , which today lives on as a city street under the names Noordvliet and Zuidvliet.

In urban areas, the Vliets are often built over and the names can then be found in the street names: Brouwersvliet in Antwerp or Gedempte Vliet in Leeuwarden. Etymologically , vliet is related to the High German Fließ and the Low German Fleth / Fleet .
