From 2003 the ship was in service under the name Al-Sabini for Balearia , before it was returned to its shipyard in 2004 due to technical defects and only returned to service in South Korea in 2012 . On September 30, 2016, it sank under the name Mykonos Jet on a ferry trip to Greece off the coast of Zhoushan .
history
The Volcan de Tauro was built under construction number 274 at Rodriguez Cantieri Navali in Pietra Ligure and was delivered to Naviera Armas on April 22, 2000. In May 2000 the ship started the ferry service between Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Tenerife .
After two years in the service of Naviera Armas that was Volcan de Tauro , 2002 in Cadiz launched . In March 2003 the ship went to the Spanish shipping company Balearia under the name Al-Sabini and was in service on the route between Dénia , Ibiza and Palma from April 2003 . On December 4, 2004, Balearia returned the ship to its builder Rodriguez Cantieri Navali because, in their opinion, it had design flaws that led to technical problems several times.
After berthing times in Cartagena and Cádiz, the Al-Sabini became the property of Caterpillar in May 2006 , who had built the ship's machinery. In October 2006 it was transferred to Genoa for a shipyard stay and the flag was changed to St. Vincent and the Grenadines . In December 2007 the Al-Sabini went to Toulon , where it was still available. Since April 2010 the ship has been in the port of Marseille .
It was not until December 2011 that a new operator was found with the South Korean shipping company Sea World Express Ferry for the Al-Sabini, which has now been open for seven years . In the same month the ship was transferred to Mokpo and put into service between Mokpo and Jeju-si in May 2012 under the name Queen Star .
After four years in service, the Queen Star went to the Cyprus- based shipping company Seajets , which operates several high-speed ferries in Greece, in September 2016 as the Mykonos Jet . During its transfer voyage, the ship had to be pulled by the Symphony 14 tug because it had suffered engine damage shortly before its planned departure for Europe. On September 29, the Mykonos Jet began to sink stern first for an unknown reason, which is why the tug had to disconnect from the ship. A day later, the Mykonos Jet sank off the coast of Zhoushan.
