The East German Volleyball Championship of Women was 1982/83 held for the 33rd time. The SC Traktor Schwerin secured the fourth championship in a row. This time they prevailed against SC Dynamo Berlin in the four additional finals . Third place went to TSC Berlin this time ahead of SC Leipzig .

Originally, the four club teams ( SC Traktor Schwerin , SC Dynamo Berlin , SC Leipzig and TSC Berlin ) were to determine the champions in four tournaments (each against each other) from November 1982 to February 1983. However, in mid-January in Bautzen , the presidium of the DSVB decided to extend the championship with a further four games in view of the preparations for the European championship in their own country (September) . The first two in the main round played the title, while the third and fourth competed for the bronze medal. The points and sets scored from the four championship tournaments were not taken into account for the final scoring.
