The Volvo FE is a distribution and regional transport truck from Volvo Trucks based on the Volvo FL . However, the FE has a higher payload than the FL. It is produced in 18 to 19-ton, 22 to 26-ton and 26-ton versions and is also intended to be a cheaper and lighter alternative to the Volvo FM . The 7.2-liter in-line six-cylinder engines of the D7F series are available with 175, 190, 220 and 250 kW. Although the FE was developed for short journeys, in addition to the short cab it is also available as a medium and long version with sleeping facilities. The Volvo FE shares the cab with the Renault Midlum or Renault Premium.
construction
The truck body is available in two variants, for general sales and as a light commercial vehicle. The suspension is offered in two levels, one full air suspension or one front parabolic suspension and one air suspension for the rear or an S parabolic suspension at the rear. The differential gear is also offered with different locking ratios, so there is a choice of 4x2, 6x2 and 6x4.
Hybrid version
The Volvo FE hybrid version has a 120 kW electric motor and a seven liter diesel engine with "stop-and-go" and a shift gear. The electric motor accelerates the truck up to 20 km / h and only switches on the diesel engine when driving faster. The batteries are recharged by braking and the diesel engine is switched off when the vehicle comes to a standstill.
