Technical specifications
At the beginning of 8500 based on the Volvo B10BLE or Volvo B12M - chassis only with time but were Volvo B7 - B9S- or different Volvo B12 chassis used. In addition to the standard model with a length of 12 m, there was also an articulated bus with a length of 18.64 m. The diesel engine was also available as a natural gas variant. Power was transmitted with a ZF Friedrichshafen 6-speed or the Voith- built Volvo I-Shift 8- speed automatic transmission . The 8500 was also available as a regional and intercity bus . After the almost identical Volvo 7500 was introduced three years later, Volvo specialized the 8500 for regional and interurban transport, while the 7500 was adapted more for urban conditions.
