The Volvo 8700 was a city bus model that Volvo offered between 2002 and 2011. The body was manufactured by Carrus in Breslau ( Poland ). The 8700 was taller than the technically related Volvo 7700 low-floor bus . The 8700 was therefore also used as an intercity bus . As the 8700 LE, it differed from the city bus version with seat belts for the passengers.
In addition to the two-axis version, there was also a longer three-axis version. The Volvo DH12D- diesel engine was standard as a rear engine installed, on request as a mid-engine in underground construction . With the latter version, more cargo volume was possible overall with greater driving comfort thanks to better weight distribution. The engine's power was transmitted by a ZF 6-speed manual transmission or by the 8-speed Volvo i-Shift automatic transmission produced by Voith . In 2011 the Volvo 8700 was replaced by the Volvo 8900 .
