Vragel da Silva (born March 29, 1974 in Campo Grande ) is a former Brazilian soccer player and current coach .
Career
In Campo Grande, Vragel da Silva learned to play football at the local club Campo Grande AC , where he played from youth to the professional team. With the AC he made it to the Série A, the highest league in Brazil.
In 1998 da Silva moved to Brøndby IF in Denmark . With Brøndby he played in the Champions League , where he played against Manchester United . After a year and a half, da Silva moved to Germany for the second division club Karlsruher SC during the winter break of the 1999/2000 season . With Karlsruhe he was relegated at the end of the season. For the 2000/01 season he moved to SSV Ulm 1846 . With the Ulm team, he rose again from the 2nd division after the season. Then he moved to Energie Cottbus in the Bundesliga . The beefy defender played immediately in the starting line-up. In his second first division game, da Silva scored his first goal in the Bundesliga against Hertha BSC . Even after relegation to the 2nd division in 2003, he remained loyal to Cottbus. On May 14, 2006 he made a decisive header for Cottbus, which was important for promotion to the 1st Bundesliga.
Vragel da Silva was feared by the opponents due to his strength in the ball. During his training in Brazil, he trained for hours every day on the pendulum ball .
Da Silva also became conspicuous in the Bundesliga through repeated, blatantly sport-adverse behavior, which earned him a suspension several times. At the turn of the year 07/08, he even paused eight games across all rounds after he had elbowed his opponent Gaëtan Krebs in the face in the game against Hannover 96 . Since Silva had already been suspended for seven games for such an offense, the sports court set an unusually high penalty.
In October 2009 Vragel da Silva ended his active football career because of severe knee problems.
Coaching career
After acquiring the B license , da Silva took over responsibility for the U-17 team at FC Energie Cottbus in October 2010. He has been the U-19's assistant coach since 2011. From the 2013/14 season he succeeded Vasile Miriuta as coach of the U-23. For the 2015/16 season he took over as coach of FC Oberlausitz Neugersdorf in the Regionalliga Nordost and stayed there until 2017. After a year break as a soccer coach, da Silva signed a contract with SV Grün-Weiß Lübben from the Brandenburg League in July 2019 .
Private
Vragel da Silva married Idineia in Campo Grande in 1999. The marriage is now divorced. In 2002 his daughter Fernanda was born.
