history

The origin of the settlement of Wadenbrunn is obscure, the original name "Batchenbrunn" refers to a landlord named Baticho. It was not until 1245 that the village of Wadenbrunn appeared in the sources for the first time as a “batch fountain”. The Würzburg bishop Hermann I von Lobdeburg bought the place back from Vogt Conrad von Speckfeld. In the 14th century the bailiwick came to Friedrich von Spiesheim and his son-in-law Otto von Heidingsfeld .

After further changes of rulership, among others the Zollner von der Hallburg and the Burgmann Konrad Saueracker held the bailiwick, in 1448 the Kirchberg in Volkach acquired the Hofgut. The purchase sparked some disputes with the prince-bishop's office in Klingenberg , to which Wadenbrunn still belonged. It was not until 1667 that an arbitration decision by the Würzburg prince-bishop determined: "(...) the bailiwick (...) belongs to the Volkach city council (...)".

In 1830 "Wadenhausen", at that time in the Volkach Regional Court , consisted of 13 houses in which 14 families, a total of 84 people, lived. In 1861 the shrinking estate was acquired by the von Krätzer family from Mainz . At this point in time, only nine families are recorded in Wadenbrunn. The family had Wadenbrunn converted into an estate. In 1872 the Schönborn dominion followed as owner. At times Wadenbrunn was co-administered by the Gaibach estate .
