The constituency of Silesia 14 was a constituency for the elections to the House of Representatives in the Austrian Crown Land of Silesia . The electoral district was created in 1907 with the introduction of the Reichsrat election regulations and existed until the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy .

history

After the Reichsrat had decided on the general, equal, secret and direct male suffrage in autumn 1906, the major reform of the electoral law through the sanctioning of Emperor Franz Joseph I came into effect on January 26, 1907 . With the new Reichsrat election order, a total of 516 electoral districts were created, with one member being elected in each constituency with the exception of Galicia in the course of the Reichsrat election. The MP had to prevail with an absolute majority in the first ballot or in a runoff election. The constituency of Silesia 14 comprised the judicial districts of Bielitz , Skotschau and Schwarzwasser , with the exception of the following municipalities:

The Polish priest Józef Londzin , a candidate for the Union of Silesian Catholics, emerged victorious from the 1907 Reichsrat election . His opponents were Alojzy Bonczek ( Polish Social Democratic Party of Galicia , PPSD) and Jan Sztwiertnia, former member of the Union of Silesian Catholics, formerly associated with the ideal of a Silesia shaped by the Polish national movement, but with relative support from the local Germans. Robert Rosche, a superior of the municipality of Pogórze and a supporter of Theodor Haase ( German Progressive Party ), declined to participate.

In the 1911 Reichsrat election, Józef Londzin won again. His opponents at that time were the pro-German and anti-Polish national movement Józef Kożdoń and the social democrat Edmund Chobot (PPSD). The battle for votes was particularly fierce.
