Kamienica ( German Kamitz , Kamnitz or Kemnitz ) is a district ( Osiedle ) of Bielsko-Biała in the Silesian Voivodeship in Poland .

geography

Kamienica lies on the border of the Silesian Foothills ( Pogórze Śląskie , in the north) and the Silesian Beskids ( Beskid Śląski , in the south), about 3 km southwest of the city center.

Historically, Kamienica had an area of ​​around 1850  ha . The current district has 710.05 hectares.

history

The place is in the Olsa region (also Teschener Silesia , Polish Śląsk Cieszyński ).

The place was first mentioned as an item in Kemnitz around 1305 in the Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis (tithe register of the diocese of Breslau ) . The name of the village is derived from the Slavic name of the river flowing through it (in Polish kamienny - stone ).

Politically, the village originally belonged to the Duchy of Teschen , which existed from 1290 during the period of Polish particularism . Since 1327 consisted suzerainty of the Kingdom of Bohemia and since 1526 it belonged to the Habsburg monarchy . Since 1572 it belonged to the dominion of Bielitz (from 1754 Duchy of Bielitz ).

After 1540 under Wenceslaus III. Adam built the Reformation and the local Roman Catholic Church built in 1547 was taken over by Lutherans in 1560. A special commission returned them to Catholics on April 16, 1654. According to the tolerance patent , a Lutheran parish was established in 1814.

After the abolition of patrimonial , from 1850 it formed a community together with Olszówka Górna (Ober Ohlisch) in Austrian Silesia , district and judicial district of Bielitz . In the years 1880–1910, the population of the municipality increased from 1946 in 1880 to 3425 in 1910, there were predominantly German-speaking (between 87.1% and 92.3%), also Polish-speaking (between 7.6% and 12, 8%) and Czech speakers (4 in 1910). In 1910, 56.7% were Roman Catholic, 41.5% Protestant, and 61 (1.8%) Jews. It belonged to the Bielitz-Bialaer Sprachinsel .

In 1920, after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and the end of the Polish-Czechoslovak border war , Kamienica came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .

Kamienica was partially incorporated with the city of Bielsko-Biała on January 1, 1969, the rest in 1977.
