Leszczyny ( German Nussdorf ) is a district ( Osiedle ) of Bielsko-Biała in the Silesian Voivodeship , Poland .

geography

Leszczyny is located about 5 km southeast of the city center, at the mouth of the Straconka Stream on the Biała River .

The current district has 321.58 hectares.

history

The place originated in the 17th century as a hamlet of Lipnik . In Polish, the name means hazel .

During the first partition of Poland , Leszczyny became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire in 1772 (from 1804).

In 1900 it was in the Lipnik municipality and had 774 inhabitants; there were predominantly German-speaking (500), also Polish-speaking (267), predominantly Roman Catholic (641), there were also 13 Jews and 120 of other faiths (predominantly Protestant).

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Leszczyny came to Poland. Leszczyny with Lipnik was incorporated into the city of Biała (since 1951 Bielsko-Biała) in 1925.
