The constituency of Styria 20 was a constituency for the elections to the House of Representatives in the Austrian Crown Land of Styria . The electoral district was created in 1907 with the introduction of the Reichsrat election regulations and existed until the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy .

history

After the Reichsrat had decided on the general, equal, secret and direct male suffrage in autumn 1906, the major reform of the electoral law through the sanctioning of Emperor Franz Joseph I became effective on January 26, 1907 . The new Reichsrat election regulations created a total of 416 electoral districts, with the exception of Galicia in each constituency one member was elected in the course of the Reichsrat election. The MP had to prevail with an absolute majority in the first ballot or in a runoff election. The constituency of Styria 20 comprised the following judicial districts:

In the 1907 Reichsrat election, the German conservative politician Johann Krenn prevailed in the first ballot with 64.3% of the vote. Behind him, the agrarian Count Stürgkh got 34.8% of the vote, the Social Democrat Haider only got 0.6%. In the 1911 Reichsrat election, Krenn lost his mandate to the Christian Socialist Leopold Potzinger , who won the first ballot with 55.5%. Krenn only got 39.9% of the vote, the liberal German Heinrich Stürgkh got 3.0%. In this election, too, the Social Democratic candidate did not get more than 1.1% of the vote.
