The constituency of Styria 3 was a constituency for the elections to the House of Representatives in the Austrian Crown Land of Styria . The electoral district was created in 1907 with the introduction of the Reichsrat election regulations and existed until the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy .
history
After the Reichsrat had decided on the general, equal, secret and direct male suffrage in autumn 1906, the major reform of the electoral law through the sanctioning of Emperor Franz Joseph I came into effect on January 26, 1907 . The new Reichsrat election regulations created a total of 416 electoral districts, with the exception of Galicia in each constituency one member was elected in the course of the Reichsrat election. The MP had to prevail with an absolute majority in the first ballot or in a runoff election. The constituency of Styria 3 included the V. and VI. District of the city of Graz ( Gries and Jakomini ).
The Social Democrat Josef Pongratz emerged victorious from the 1907 Reichsrat election . He prevailed with 55.0% in the first ballot. He was followed by Josef Hackl ( German People's Party ) with 24.6% and Konrad Hopfwieser ( Christian Social Party ) with 19.2%. In the 1911 Reichsrat election, Pongratz was able to successfully defend his mandate with 55.9%. Behind him followed the German-liberal candidate Hans Habisch with 23.5% and the Christian-social politician Karl Plechinger.
