Elections in Uruguay 1999
The 1999 presidential and parliamentary elections in Uruguay took place on Sunday, October 31, 1999.
The President, Vice-President, 30 Senators and 99 MPs were elected.
Since no party achieved an absolute majority, a runoff election took place on Sunday, November 28th .
Candidates
Each party had chosen its candidate in the primaries for the 1999 Uruguay presidential election in April:
- Partido Colorado : Jorge Batlle Ibáñez , received 32.8% of the vote in October; in November he was the winner of the runoff election with 54.13% of the vote.
- Frente Amplio : Tabaré Vázquez , received 40.1% of the vote in October.
- Partido Nacional : Luis Alberto Lacalle
- Nuevo Espacio : Rafael Michelini
- Unión Cívica : Luis Pieri
