The constituency of Görlitz was a state electoral district for the Saxon state elections from 1990 to 2009 . In 1990 it had constituency number 29, in all other elections the constituency number 58. During its existence, the CDU politician Volker Bandmann was able to win the constituency in all five state elections.
Constituency area
The constituency of Görlitz was the only state parliament constituency in Saxony that kept its area from 1990 to 2009. Only through the incorporation of surrounding districts the constituency area increased, as did the expansion of the city of Görlitz. In return, however, the population of the city of Görlitz steadily decreased, from almost 75,000 at the end of 1989 to approx. 56,000 in 2009. At the same time, the number of people entitled to vote fell accordingly from a good 55,000 in the first state election in 1990 to approx. 46,500 in 2009. Thus, the city of Görlitz lost its own constituency during the restructuring of the constituencies for the state elections in 2014 and was included in the newly formed constituency of Görlitz 2 , which also includes other cities and municipalities in the district of Görlitz .
