history

In 1951 the Waldbühne was opened by the former municipality of Kloster Oesede under the name Eichendorff-Bühne . Initially, open-air plays with classical adaptations such as Faust or Die Nibelungen as well as fairy tales such as Snow White were performed.

For financial reasons, however, the game had to be stopped in 1959. In the following years the stage therefore functioned as a place for sporting events and concerts.

After the Oesedes Monastery merged with four other rural communities to form the town of Georgsmarienhütte in 1970, the latter took over the open-air theater. In the following years the stage was mainly the scene of various rock festivals and concerts.

This use also ended at the beginning of the 1980s, so that the stage was not used for a few years before theater operations could be resumed in 1988 under the direction of Franz Breit; the first piece shown was the musical Oklahoma! ; In 1990, under the direction of Johannes Börger, the children's theater also came to the stage.

The “Waldbühne Kloster Oesede eV” association was founded in 2003 and has been operating under this name ever since. Since 2004, the evening piece has been enhanced by the live music of the Waldbühne band. Since then, the musicians under the direction of Georgi Gürov have delighted visitors in the evening pieces. In 2010, a German premiere was played for the first time with Betty and her sisters . The Waldbühne choir was directed by Angela Irnich until 2015 and also enriched all evening pieces musically. Pieces with up to eight voices were rehearsed for the hot corner . In 2015 Georgi Gürov handed over the musical direction and Angela Irnich the choir direction to Christian Tobias Müller.

For 2020, all events have been canceled due to the Covid 19 pandemic .

The Waldbühne Kloster Oesede is a member of the Association of German Open Air Theaters .

The stage
