The forest chapel "To the painful Mother of God" is a Catholic chapel in Kaisersesch , a town in the district of Cochem-Zell ( Rhineland-Palatinate ), which was built in the 18th century. The chapel is located on the outskirts in the direction of Müllenbach , it is a protected cultural monument .

history

A legend tells that a chapel was built here as early as the 12th century. The first written evidence comes down to 1754. In 1794 it was badly damaged during the First Coalition War and was not repaired until 1833. Foundations made it possible to maintain and renovate the chapel.

description

The three-axis rectangular quarry stone building is set back on Landstrasse 52 (Trierer Strasse), it is surrounded by a small green area. The vault collapsed in 1910 and was then replaced by a wooden barrel . On the ge wrong Erten saddle roof a six-sided sitting roof tab with cambered cap . The chapel without an actual choir has three arched windows on both sides of the eaves , which are closed with glass paintings . The round-arched west portal with simple capitals on the wall is marked on the keystone with the year 1769. The double-leaf door is decorated with a rococo carving .

  • Statues of St. Barbara and St. Elisabeth from the 18th century

Leaded glass window

The old windows were destroyed in the bombing of Kaisersescher Bahnhof in 1944 and renewed after the Second World War .
