Valery Anatolyevich Spitsyn
Valery Anatoljewitsch Spizyn ( Russian Валерий Анатольевич Спицын , English spelling Valeriy Spitsyn ; born December 5, 1965 in Magnitogorsk ) is a former Russian walker who became European champion in his sport in 1994.
In 1992 Spizyn became the Champion of the Commonwealth of Independent States . At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , his teammate Andrei Perlow won . Behind the Mexican Carlos Mercenario and the German Ronald Weigel , Spizyn took fourth place after 3:54:39 h.
A year later Spizyn won bronze at the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart . Behind the Spaniard Jesús Ángel García and the Finn Valentin Kononen he reached the goal after 3:42:50 h. At the European Championships in 1994 he won in 3:41:07 h with two and a half minutes ahead of the French Thierry Toutain .
After he was disqualified at the 1995 World Championships , Spizyn did not appear internationally for a few years. At the Russian championship on May 21, 2000 Spizyn won in Moscow in a world best time of 3:37:26 h. He had thus also qualified for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . There Spizyn gave up on the route.
Valery Spizyn is 1.78 m tall and weighed 67 kg at competition times.
