Walk Among Us was the first album by the American horror punk band The Misfits , which was released in 1982 on the Californian label Ruby Records.
History of origin
The name of the LP alludes to the film The Creature Walks Among Us (German title: Das Ungeheuer ist unter uns ), the sequel to The Horror of the Amazon . Most of the titles are from earlier recordings by the group, which were made between June and December 1981. These were remastered in January 1982 by singer and songwriter Glenn Danzig and some of them were provided with new vocal and guitar tracks. Mommy Can I Go Out And Kill Tonight? is the only track that was taken over from a live recording, this was also remastered. The first pressing contains a pink cover with a band logo, which is also outlined in pink, the second pressing is purple, the band logo is outlined in pink. In 1988, another version, with a purple background and lettering outlined in green, was launched. The last known picture is in orange, the edge of the lettering is purple.

reception
Ned Raggett describes Walk Among Us for Allmusic as a "legendary piece of US punk" that breaks the serious conventions of punk and offers brilliant entertainment. Rolling Stone magazine chose the album in its 2016 list of 40 Greatest Punk Albums of All Time at number 32. The US magazine Pitchfork describes the album's music as "a staggering monstrosity of blood-smeared hooks and scruffy metaphor". Reviewer Jason Heller pointed out that the album was a further development of the band's unreleased material from the past five years and, in terms of content, a "putrid essence of the fears of the early 1980s".
Cover versions
- Both Pennywise , Discipline and My Chemical Romance coverten the title Astro Zombies .
- I Turned Into A Martian was covered by Molotov in Spanish.
- In 1986, Glenn Danzig decided to re-record the album with Eerie Von, the bassist of his band Samhain at the time. However, these recordings were never fully completed. Some of the newly imported versions can be found on Collection II .
