Ludger Schepers
Ludger Schepers (born April 18, 1953 in Oberhausen-Osterfeld ) is auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Essen .
Life
After graduating from high school in mathematics and science at Novalis Gymnasium in Oberhausen , Ludger Schepers entered the seminary of the diocese of Essen . He studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Ruhr University in Bochum and at the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg . He was ordained a deacon on January 13, 1978 . On March 2, 1979, Schepers received the sacrament of ordination through Bishop Franz Hengsbach in St. Joseph, Essen-Steele-Horst .
Ludger Schepers worked as a chaplain in the parish of St. Bonifatius in Essen-Huttrop and Herz Jesu in Duisburg-Neumühl from 1979 to 1986 . From 1986 to 1990 he was city youth pastor in Oberhausen and chaplain in the parish of St. Antonius in Oberhausen-Alstaden . In August 1990 Schepers became pastor of the parish of St. Judas Thaddäus in Duisburg-Buchholz , which was later merged with the parishes of St. Nicholas and the Holy Spirit. In 1994 Ludger Schepers obtained a degree in canon law from the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and in 1995 he became a diocesan judge . In 1999 he was appointed a member of the priestly council and the church tax council of the diocese of Essen. In 2002 Schepers became dean of the Duisburg-Süd dean's office . After the restructuring of the parishes in the diocese of Essen, he became the first pastor of the newly founded parish of St. Judas Thaddäus in 2006, which covers the area of the former dean's office in Duisburg-Süd. In August 2007 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Papal Honorary Chaplain .
On June 27, 2008 Benedict XVI appointed him. as auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Essen and titular bishop of Neapolis in Proconsulari . The episcopal ordination received his Bishop Felix Genn on 19 September 2008 at the Essen Cathedral ; Co-consecrators were the Auxiliary Bishops Franz Grave and Franz Vorrath from Essen . On the same day he was appointed Episcopal Vicar for universal church and social tasks by Felix Genn , after he had already been appointed resident capitular at Essen Cathedral on September 5, 2008 .
In the German Bishops' Conference , he is a member of the Pastoral Commission , the Commission for International Church , the Sub-Commission "Women in Church and Society" of the Pastoral Commission (III) and the Sub-Commission on mission issues (esp. MISSIO) , which he is chairman.
