Walter Erasmy

Hans Walter Erasmy (born November 13, 1924 in Essen , † January 23, 1993 in Cologne ) was a German journalist .

Life

The son of a master craftsman graduated from high school and was called up for military service (1942) after graduating from high school . After his release from British captivity , Walter Erasmy began in 1946 as a reporter for the Northwest German Broadcasting Corporation (NWDR) and from January 1947 to May 1947 took part in the first training course for young people at the NWDR's radio school. This was followed by activities for the NWDR and Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) as a reporter and editor for the radio formats Echo des Tages and Between Rhine and Weser .

Walter Erasmy counted in 1957, among other things besides Werner Höfer and Ernst Huberty establishing editors of the new regional television news magazine here and now , its chief editor , he became later. In 1963, Erasmy hit the headlines in this position when he banned the so-called evening editors, including Anneliese Fleyenschmidt and Ruth Kappelsberger , from presenting the program and only used male editors for the moderation.

In the course of his various activities for the WDR, he also held the positions of the head of the “Regional Information” department and the deputy editor-in-chief for politics and current affairs. From 1977 to March 1988 he also presented the talk show Wednesdays he had developed on… on WDR television . In addition, he regularly spoke the commentary in the daily topics .

Walter Erasmy died on January 23, 1993 in Cologne after severe suffering.

Honors

Walter Erasmy was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia on September 5, 1988 .
