Walter Keller (born December 27, 1953 in Uster ; † September 1, 2014 in Zurich ) was a Swiss journalist , publisher and gallery owner .

Life

Walter Keller was born in Uster in 1953 as the son of an Italian and a Swiss. Between 1973 and 1978 he studied folklore , linguistics and German studies in Zurich and at the Free University of Berlin . In 1978 he founded the magazine Der everyday life. The sensations of the ordinary with which he recorded everyday life in Switzerland. With Jacqueline Burckhardt , Bice Curiger and Peter Blum , he founded the magazine Parkett in 1984 , which was published in Zurich and New York in German and English. Each edition was created in collaboration with one or more contemporary artists.

In 1991, Keller initiated the Scalo photo book publisher with a bookshop and gallery. However, the project had to file for bankruptcy in 2006. With his partner George Reinhart and Urs Stahel , he then founded the Fotomuseum Winterthur in 1993 , for whose sponsoring association Keller was a board member for the first few years.

In 2008, Keller was editor-in-chief of the cultural magazine Du from January to August . He also worked for the Lumas photo gallery in the late 2000s . From 2010 he ran the “Galerie Walter Keller” in Zurich.
