Simone Meier
Simone Meier (born March 5, 1970 in Lausanne ) is a Swiss journalist and writer.
Career
Simone Meier grew up in Zeiningen in Aargau as the daughter of a teacher. After studying German, American and art history in Basel , Berlin and Zurich , she began working on a dissertation project as a proofreader at the Zurich weekly WoZ in spring 1996 . Six months later she got a job as a literary editor, after which she was poached by the Tages-Anzeiger , where she worked until 2014 as culture editor, columnist, deputy head of culture and women's representative. Since then she has been the culture and society editor at the news portal watson . Her subjects range between films, television, meat and feminism, between Judith Butler and reality formats such as the Bachelor's degree.
In 1998 she began her first novel, which appeared in 2000 under the title Mein Lieb, mein Lieb, mein Leben by Hoffmann and Campe . It is a fictionalized homage to her grandmother, who briefly made it from factory seamstress to mannequin in the 1930s. The For You called the novel "A book full of dizzying desire," the taz "a bittersweet fairy tale."
In 2017 her second meat was released by Kein & Aber . Meat is a novel about people who like to eat meat and have sex. The Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote: “No phase of human life is as negative as the menopause in women. In her novel Fleisch , the Swiss writer Simone Meier shows that this time also has its fun side. " The taz called the novel "amusing and clever", the NZZ considers it "an entertaining, fast-paced reading without any claim to knowledge".
In addition to her work as a journalist (including for Süddeutsche Zeitung , Theater heute , Der Spiegel , Die Zeit , Frankfurter Rundschau and Freitag ) and writer, she also worked as a juror for the Berlin Theatertreffen (2001-2003), and curator of the Autorentheatertage at the Thalia Theater Hamburg ( 2005) and juror of the Mülheimer Theatertage . In 2006 she wrote an adaptation of Edmond Rostand's classic Cyrano de Bergerac for the director Christina Paulhofer at the Theater Basel . In August 2018, she and Sibylle Berg, Spiegel columnist Margarete Stokowski and others launched the DieKanon campaign , an attempt at an all-female canon writing .
In 2019 her third novel Kuss (No & But) was published, which illuminates the abysses behind the beautiful facade of a couple in the thirties with a lot of humor. Spiegel Online wrote "[...] Simone Meier [...] sends her thoughts on the roller coaster and creates an atmosphere made of the finest sandpaper that crackles right from the start." The WDR describes Simone Meier as a "precise observer of the relationship rituals of today's big city people."
Güzin Kar , Nadia Brügger and Simone Meier began to write about male colleagues on Twitter in the summer of 2019, as male reviewers do about female writers. Her hashtag #schichterdran immediately went viral and many colleagues, including Sibylle Berg , also spoke up. # Dichterdran developed into a phenomenon that caught the media's attention worldwide.
Simone Meier lives with her partner in Zurich.
