Walter Kunze (politician, 1898)

Walter Kunze (also Walther Kunze ; born July 9, 1898 in Treuenbrietzen ; † 1977 ) was a German liberal politician ( DDP / LDP / FDP ). He was state chairman of the LDP Brandenburg , Minister of Finance of the State of Brandenburg. In 1948 he fled to the west . He was the district manager of Hamburg-Altona .

Life

Kunze, the son of a teacher, studied after graduating from high school and in 1919 became a member of the Democratic Student Union. From 1921 to 1923 he was a member of the Berlin student council and parliamentary group chairman of the German University Association. From 1924 to 1931 he was managing director of various DDP district associations in Osthavelland , in Hessen-Darmstadt and in Berlin . In 1931 Kunze was dismissed from the DDP because of lack of money and was unemployed for a long time.

Kunze was also a member of the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold and its local group leader in Bytom and Opole . Between 1938 and 1942 he worked as a warehouse manager and clerk. In 1943 he was drafted into the Air Force and later became a Soviet prisoner of war .

After his return in 1945 he became a member of the LDP. 1945/1946 he worked as a consultant in the information office of the provincial administration of the Mark Brandenburg . In 1946 he became LDP local group chairman in Falkensee , community representative in Falkensee and district council member for the Oberhavel district. From December 1946 to March 1948 he was finance minister in Brandenburg, from March 1947 to March 1948 he was first chairman of the LDP state board of Brandenburg and from July 1947 to March 1948 also a member of the LDP central board. From 1946 to 1948 he was a member of the state parliament .

In March / April 1948 he fled to the western zones via Berlin. Here he joined the FDP. He lived in Hamburg since August 1948 and worked as an editor for Welt am Sonntag . From the beginning of May 1954 to the end of July 1963, he was the successor to August Kirch District Office Manager (“District Mayor”) of Altona. He was also chairman of the LDP federal advisory board of the FDP.
