Walter Morio

Walter Morio (born November 1, 1920 in Ranschbach ; † June 10, 2008 ) was a German lawyer and politician ( CDU ). He was Lord Mayor of Landau in the Palatinate .

Life

Morio was the son of the agronomist Peter Morio and his wife Katharina. He had two siblings. In 1949 he was in the city council elected by Landau. From 1951 to 1964 Morio worked as a lawyer in Landau; In 1964 he became Lord Mayor of Landau.

In 1970 Morio received honorary citizenship of the Alsatian town of Ribeauvillé , Landau's twin town. The Alsatian city of Haguenau , also twin town of Landau, awarded Morio the Medal of Honor in 1980.

After retiring as Lord Mayor in 1984, Morio worked in an advisory capacity in his son's office.

His hometown Landau made him an honorary citizen in 1985.

He was President and later Honorary President of the German Dahlia, Fuchsia and Gladiolus Society. He was also a member of the Catholic German student union Vasgovia zu Landau in the CV:

Morio died in 2008; Christian Baldauf paid tribute to him in an obituary: “Walter Morio was a local politician with body and soul. At the same time, overcoming all internal and external borders between Germans and French was a matter close to his heart. "
