Walter Pérez Villamonte

Walter Pérez Villamonte (born November 3, 1936 in Vilacaya ; † March 29, 2018 in Sucre ) was a Bolivian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Potosí .

Life

Villamonte entered the Sucre Minor Seminary and studied philosophy and theology at the San Cristóbal Major Seminary in Sucre and Chile . He was ordained a priest in Sucre on January 11, 1959 . He was active as a pastor in San Lazaro and San Roque de Sucre and as headmaster in Villa Serrano. From 1972 to 1975 he was chaplain at the Hospital del Tórax . Since 1978 he has taught languages ​​at the national seminary in San José de Cochabamba. After studying moral theology, he was rector of the National Seminary in San José de Cochabamba from 1984 to 1988. He also taught Latin and moral theology at the Higher Institute for Theological Studies (ISET) of Cochabamba. Since 1988 he has been Deputy Secretary General of the Bolivian Bishops' Conference in La Paz. In 1994 he was appointed Monsignor by Pope John Paul II .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on December 16, 1995 auxiliary bishop in Sucre and titular bishop of Curubis . The Archbishop of Sucre, Jesús Gervasio Pérez Rodríguez, OFM , donated him episcopal ordination on February 2nd of the following year ; Co- consecrators were Giovanni Tonucci , Apostolic Nuncio in Bolivia , and René Fernández Apaza , Archbishop of Cochabamba .

On March 7, 1998, he was appointed Bishop of Potosí . Pope Benedict XVI accepted his resignation on November 25, 2009 for health reasons.
