Walter Sethe

Walter Sethe , also: Walther (* April 2, 1898 in Bochum ; † November 10, 1955 in Lemgo ) was a German administrative officer, u. a. District administrator in Suhl and city ​​director of Lemgo.

life and work

Sethe took part in the First World War from 1916 to 1918 . From 1919 to 1923 he studied law in Münster , Hamburg and Berlin . After the second state examination he worked as an assessor at the district offices in Vohwinkel , Düsseldorf , Bielefeld and Suhl . The non-party Sethe was employed there in September 1933 as district administrator of the Schleusingen district in the Prussian province of Saxony , administrative district of Erfurt .

After the entry of the 3rd US Panzer Division under the command of General George S. Patton on April 3, 1945, Sethe was interned in a camp near Gotha . At the end of February 1946 he was taken to the American occupation zone in Darmstadt , further interrogated and released in Oeslau in June . On November 25, 1947, Sethe was elected city director in Lemgo from four applicants and was introduced to the office on December 3, 1947. He replaced the acting city director, the Detmold government inspector Clemens Becker . The city historians judged his time as mayor: “The election of Sethe and his successful administration gave the Lemgo local government a variety of impulses in the following years and made it possible to make important fundamental decisions for the development of the city.” As mayor, Sethe was a member of the Association of Cities and Towns on the boards of Westfälische Ferngas AG , Wesertal GmbH and the housing and settlement cooperative. Furthermore, during his tenure, the city sponsored the Marien-Kantorei, the adult education center, the Landestheater Detmold and the Northwest German Philharmonic .
