Valter Taub

Valter Taub , also Walter Taub and Valtr Taub (born June 18, 1907 in Brno , † September 30, 1982 in Vienna ) was a Czech actor and theater director .

Life

He received his first engagements at the Deutsches Theater in Mährisch-Ostrau and other German-speaking theaters in Czechoslovakia . From 1931 to 1939 he was an actor and director at the New German Theater in Prague . There he played Muley Hassan in The Fiesco Conspiracy in Genoa (1936).

Since the 1930s he has been involved in the organization of the club of Czech and German theater artists. After the establishment of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia , he emigrated to Sweden in 1939 and worked there as a journalist for 14 years.

In 1953 Taub took up an engagement in Pilsen , then from 1954 to 1971 he was a member of the ensemble of the Realistic Theater in Prague. He also played on various other Czechoslovak theaters.

Since 1964 he has made guest appearances on German theaters in Berlin , Hamburg , Munich , Hanover and Frankfurt am Main . On the initiative of director Oscar Fritz Schuh , he played the plague in The State of Siege at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in 1966/67 . He then had great success at the same venue in 1967 as the title character in Kohout's stage version of The Adventures of the Good Soldier Schwejk .

Other roles on German-language stages were Caliban in Der Sturm (1968, Salzburg ), Adzak in Der Caucasian Kreidekreis (1971, Hanover), Hanswurst in Goethe's Faust (1971, Freilichtspiele Schwäbisch Hall ), Master Anton in Maria Magdalena (1975, Schauspielhaus Frankfurt am Main ) and Machiavelli in Egmont (1982, Bregenz Festival ). From 1978 the somewhat stocky actor played at the Burgtheater in Vienna, most recently in 1982 in Der neue Menoza .

In addition, Taub worked in various film and television productions. In 1979 he received the German Film Award in the category Performing services for his portrayal of Rabbi Singer in the film David by Peter Lilienthal . His grave is in the Vyšehrad cemetery in Prague.
