Lists on the subject

The Walther TP (pocket pistol) is a self-loading pistol from the gun manufacturer Carl Walther GmbH . The weapon was manufactured in the calibers .22 lfB (5.6 mm) and 6.35 mm Browning (.25 ACP). The Walther TP came onto the market in 1961 and was manufactured until 1971.

The Walther TP is designed as a pocket pistol, it has no internal valve , firing pin and firing pin are a part. Therefore this weapon should never be put down while cocked. The locking pin could tear off over time. The safety acts directly on the trigger.

Technically, it largely follows the model of the model 9 pocket pistol, but is significantly larger and has a different contour. The most obvious change is the relocation of the safety lever from the left side of the handle to the left side of the lock.

A total of around 11,500 pistols in 6.35 mm Browning (highest known serial number 011465) and 3,417 pistols in .22 lfb were produced. The serial numbers have six digits, with the 6.35 models starting at 0000xx (starting number unknown) and the .22 models starting with number 200011 (highest known serial number 203427). The models show minor, but highly interesting differences for the collector.

Early models in 6.35 mm Browning bear the lettering on the left side of the slide next to the Walther banner:

Model TP Cal. 6.35mm

The label on the right reads:

Carl Walther Arms Factory Ulm / Thu.

The red dot on the fuse has a diameter of 4.5 mm. The grain is 1.4 mm wide. The highest known serial number with the early inscription is 001944. The inscription was changed between serial numbers 001600 and 002000 (lowest known number 001635). The change was therefore not made selectively, so that in this number range there are models with old and new, changed lettering. TP's with new lettering show on the left side of the slide next to the Walther banner:

TP Cal. 6.35 Ulm / Thu.

The right side remains free. The red dot of the fuse now has a diameter of only 3.5 mm and the 2.3 mm wide grain now sits on a milled block. For the models in caliber .22 lfb, on the other hand, there is only one variant with the following lettering similar to the late 6.35 models:

TP Cal.-22 LR Ulm / Thu.

The front sight is 1.4 mm wide, as on the early 6.35 pistols. The red dot of the fuse, on the other hand, is the narrow version of the late 6.35 variant. The earliest .22 rifle with this lettering has the serial number 200098 and was fired at in 1967. It can therefore be assumed that no other type of labeling exists.
