Wanda Bacewicz

Wanda Bacewicz (born August 10, 1911 in Łódź ; † January 1, 2011 there ) was a Polish poet and journalist . She was the sister of the composer Grażyna Bacewicz .

Life

Bacewicz attended school in Łódź and graduated from high school in 1932 . She also graduated from the Helena Kijeńska-Dobkiewiczowa Music Conservatory. She then studied from 1933 to 1937 at the College of Journalism in Warsaw . She stayed in Warsaw at the time of the German occupation and was badly wounded during the Warsaw Uprising . She was then taken to the hospital in Grodzisk Mazowiecki via the 121 Pruszków transit camp .

After the liberation she went to Lublin and worked as a journalist for Gazeta Lubelska . After only six months she returned to Łódź and wrote novellas for Polskie Radio . At the end of 1945 she moved to Warsaw and continued her work as a journalist and poet. From 1946 to 1947 she was the music correspondent for the Cracow Ruch Muzyczny and published music reviews for the Nowiny Literackie from 1947 to 1948 . She also worked for the newspapers Tygodnik Warszawski , Warszawa and Odra .

She started working for the Warsaw station of Polskie Radio in 1950, where she directed the program Nuty, nutki in 1967 . Her lyrical debut Drzewa appeared in Trybuna Literacka magazine in 1958 . In 1963 she was admitted to the Union of Polish Writers , to which she was a member until 1981. She published her poems, novellas, articles and reports in Kamena, Życie Literackie , Tygodnik Kulturalny, Poezja, Stolica, Miesięcznik Literacki , Kutlura and Literatura , among others .

In 1989 she was accepted into the Association of Polish Writers .
