Gunter Hofmann (born December 31, 1942 in Oberwernersdorf) is a German journalist .

Life

Gunter Hofmann studied political science , sociology and philosophy in Frankfurt and Heidelberg and was awarded the dissertation politics and ethics at Karl Jaspers in political philosophy at Dolf Sternberger in Heidelberg doctorate .

Until 2008 he worked first as head of the Bonn office, later as chief correspondent for the weekly newspaper Die Zeit in Berlin , where he is still employed as an author to this day. Before that, he was a correspondent for the Stuttgarter Zeitung in Bonn for seven years . He also wrote a weekly column for Cicero (magazine) Online.

For his book Farewells, Beginnings - The Federal Republic, an Anatomy (2002) he received the 2003 prize The Political Book of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation for “the best political book of the year”.

Together with Ulrike Brincker, Hofmann released the film Mister Federal Republic in 2007 for the 80th birthday of the former Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher . With the ZDF journalist Ruprecht Eser and director Marvin Enholt he created the film Helmut Schmidt : Der deutsche Kanzler (2008). In 2010 he presented a biography for Richard von Weizsäcker's 90th birthday .

Gunter Hofmann is married and has three sons.
