The wall is a 12.4 km long, left-hand or western tributary of the Twiste in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in northern Hesse ( Germany ).

course

The stream rises around 1 km south-southwest of Rhoden , the core town of Diemelstadt . Its source is about 900 m north of the Georgenhof estate and north of the wooded Helle ( 331  m above sea  level ) in an agricultural area at around 305  m above sea level. NN .

Initially, the wall flows a few hundred meters to the east and then south-south-east through a forest-lined valley, in which it crosses federal highway 252 , to Schmillinghausen , a northern district of Bad Arolsen . Immediately after flowing through the village, the Schwarze Puhle flows in from the west . Then the wall runs eastward through agricultural area, where it flows a few hundred meters south of the Herbsen district of Volkmarsen and passes the Mederich  desert with the Mederike castle stables on state road 3081 .

Finally , the wall opens out about five kilometers east of Herbsen at about 176  m above sea level. NN in the Diemel tributary Twiste .

Catchment area and tributaries

The tributaries of the wall, the catchment area of ​​which is 35.361 km², include with their length and estuary position ( viewed downstream ):

  • Schwarze Puhle (4 km, 11.393 km²) - on the right-hand side directly below Schmillinghausen
  • Wilpe (9.8 km, 8.189 km²) - on the right just before the confluence with the Twiste, near Volkmarsen
