The coat of arms of the Lithuanian SSR existed from 1940 to 1990, at the time of the existence of the Lithuanian SSR as a republic of the Soviet Union .

The coat of arms has a round shape. In the upper part a red star is depicted, which is supposed to represent belonging to communism and the hand of the liberated person of the classless society. To the left and right of the coat of arms, ears of wheat and green bushes wrap around the center of the coat of arms. In the middle, a hammer and sickle in gold , symbolizing communist state policy. Under the hammer and sickle there is a rising shining golden sun .

The ears of wheat are covered in the lower part by a red ribbon. This is with the motto Workers of All Countries, Unite! Described in Lithuanian and Russian ( Visų šalių proletarai, vienykitės! / Пролетарии всех стран, соединяйтесь! ). At the crossing of the ears of wheat, entwined by the ribbon, is written LTSR in Latin letters (Abbreviation for Lithuanian Lietuvos Taryb „Socialistinė Respublika , German " Lithuanian Socialist Soviet Republic ").

On April 10, 1990 it was replaced by the new coat of arms of Lithuania .
