The coat of arms of the Tajik SSR existed from 1940 to 1990, at the time of the existence of the Tajik SSR as a republic of the Soviet Union .

The coat of arms has an approximately round outline. In the middle is a red star that is supposed to represent belonging to communism and the hand of the liberated person of the classless society. The gold hammer and sickle can be seen on this star, symbolizing communist state policy.

On the right the coat of arms is surrounded by a white-green cotton plant and on the left by golden ears of wheat .

The crest is covered in the lower part by a red band centered in Cyrillic (font with РСС Тоҷикистон Tajik ) and including Таджикская РСС ( Russian is provided) (abbreviation for Республикаи Советии Социалистии Тоҷикистон or Таджикская Советская Социалистическая Республика denominated in German "Tadschikische Soviet Socialist Republic ”).

The red ribbon wraps around the cotton plant and is described here with the motto “Workers of all countries, unite!” In Tajik language: Пролетарҳои ҳамаи мамлакатҳо, як шавед! (transcribed Proletarhoi hamai mamlakatho, jak schawed! ). In the same way, the ears of wheat are surrounded by a red ribbon, here the motto in Russian: Пролетарии всех стран, соединяйтесь!
