What does grandma mean here! is a German television - comedy from the year 2007 .

action

Juliane Kostner has been the head buyer of a Berlin luxury department store for over 30 years. She is charming, urbane and fashion-conscious. But her attractive appearance contrasts with her not-so-rosy private life. Juliane, who is single, does not have a really good relationship with her long-grown daughter Henrike. However, when Henrike had to go to the hospital very pregnant after a fit of weakness, Juliane suddenly had to step in as a babysitter. Since her son-in-law Martin is a pilot and has no time for his children, he asks Juliane to take care of her grandchildren Nils and Sarah. And they are initially enthusiastic, because instead of organic food and clothing, there are now fashionable shopping tours and fast food.

The restlessness that now moves into Julian's well-ordered life can also be seen as something good, because in Johann, who lives in the neighboring house, she finds a likeable admirer. But the demands of balancing work and family and doing the right thing in each case are becoming increasingly difficult. After Juliane forgot to pick up little Sarah from school, her daughter Henrike threw her out of the door. Shortly afterwards, Juliane also loses her position as head buyer to a younger colleague due to an incorrect order. She is demoted to the laundry seller.

But Juliane doesn't give up. She reorganizes her life and tries above all to support her grandchildren and to orientate herself more towards the wishes of her daughter. She comforts little Sarah, who misses her mother, and helps her grandson Nils, who is being teased at school for being overweight. She also has a serious conversation with her permanently absent son-in-law Martin. Henrike has to realize that behind her stylish and seemingly egocentric mother there is a very loving person.

Reviews

"Undemanding (television) family comedy that promotes mutual understanding between the generations."

“The director Arianne Zeller, who subscribes to family comedies, [...] staged this extremely shallow and clichéd genre work based on the book by the author duo Ina Siefert and Andy T. Hoetzel. What Gaby Dohm and Tina Ruland deliver here as an unequal mother-daughter team is really not funny - but rather embarrassing. One can only hope that such grandmas do not exist in reality! "

“Ouch, it doesn't get any flatter: This cheap monzette leaves no cliché out. Conclusion: comedy? What does comedy mean here! "
