Wasa Aristides Freiherr von der Goltz (born October 16, 1807 in Königsberg ; † September 26, 1874 there ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Wasa was a son of Julius von der Goltz (1764-1837) and his wife Henriette, born von Wedelstaedt (1770-1854). His father was Professor of Law at the Albertus University in Königsberg and the Prussian Lieutenant General Gustav von der Goltz (1801–1870) was his older brother.

Military career

Goltz first studied law at the university in his hometown. On August 3, 1825, he joined the 1st Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army and was promoted to Second Lieutenant by mid-February 1827 . From 1832 to 1834 he was Adjutant of the II. Battalion and then moved in early December with the displacement of the Regiment Cuirassier 3. the type of weapon . In 1837 Goltz became regimental adjutant and at the end of April 1843 he was commanded as adjutant to the 1st Cavalry Brigade . He rose to Prime Lieutenant at the end of November 1843 , was promoted to Rittmeister in the Adjutantur on March 27, 1847 and commanded as Adjutant to the 1st Division . At the same time, Goltz was also the director of the division school of the 1st Division from mid-February 1848. On December 17, 1851 he was squadron chief in the 1st Leib-Hussar Regiment and in mid-July 1854 was promoted to major while remaining in this position . At the beginning of August 1855 he was promoted to regular staff officer , worked in the Guard Hussar Regiment from June 3, 1856 to July 8, 1857 and then became commander of the 6th Uhlan Regiment . As such, he was promoted to colonel by mid-October 1861 , and on January 9, 1864, under position à la suite of his regiment, he was commander of the 4th Cavalry Brigade in Bromberg . In mid-June 1865 he was promoted to major general and during the mobilization on the occasion of the German War he was given command of the 3rd Heavy Cavalry Brigade in the Cavalry Corps of the 1st Army in 1866 . After the peace agreement , Goltz took over his brigade again on September 17, 1866 and for his conduct during the war he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III at the end of the month . family

Goltz married on July 9, 1841 in Königsberg with Jakobine Oltersdorf (1819-1896), daughter of the building inspector Karl Gustav Oltersdorf. The marriage remained childless.
