The Military District IV (Dresden) was a territorial military administration unit during the period of the Weimar Republic and later the National Socialist German Reich . The military district existed from 1920 to 1945. It was responsible for the military security of the area of Saxony and the provision and training of parts of the army of the Reichswehr and the Wehrmacht in this area. Wehrkreis IV comprised three alternative military districts ( Dresden , Chemnitz and Leipzig ). The headquarters were in Dresden.
